Mønsted Lime Quarry and Glyngøre

During the Ascension Week, we are traveling this year with our motorhome to Denmark.

We made our first stop in Mønsted at a former limestone quarry.

This area has the largest limestone quarries in the world, of which part of the high tunnels is accessible to visitors.

Today, the caves are home to 18,000 bats, of which we saw none - except in the exhibition.

In the former lime works, there is a museum that provides information about the history of mining and the dangerous work there.

We continued on to Glyngøre, where we found a pitch at the marina.

In the evening, we took a walk through the village, which took us along the water and through the surrounding forests.

In the town, we noticed numerous pink posters celebrating 'Jonas from Glyngøre' as the 'hero of all Denmark.'

Our internet research revealed that Jonas lives in the small village and has already won the Tour de France twice - which apparently makes his Danish fellow citizens very proud.
