The 'Blue Wonder'

Departure at 10:00 AM from Cerro Castillo (Chile) to El Calafate (Argentina).

This time, crossing the border went quickly because we were pretty much the only people crossing here.

Now I also know why: a gravel road for 40 km, no one has ever been this bad . However, at 15-20 km/h, we, especially 'Peugi', managed the road...

Due to the resulting time issues, we first headed directly to the Perito Moreno Glacier, a UNESCO World Heritage site, 30 km long, 254 sq km. Unlike most glaciers in the region, the Perito Moreno Glacier is not retreating; the mass balance shows no clear trend.

The path to the glacier was promising, best weather accompanied us past Lago Argentino. But just as we reached the foothills of the Andes: rain ...

Still, great amazement during my 4 km walk past the glacier, a wonderful sight, even in the rain!

On the way back to El Calafate, sunshine again....

The Perito Moreno Glacier in Parque Nacional Los Glaciares - it rumbles and creaks, chunks of ice constantly plunge into the turquoise waters of Lago Argentino.
So unbelievably beautiful, you don't know if you're shivering from the Patagonian cold or from the breathtaking sight of this natural wonder.
The gigantic glacier, also called the 'Bismarck Glacier', spans over 30 km from Cerro Pietrobelli (2950 m) to Lago Argentino over a total area of 255 km². Against all trends, the Perito Moreno Glacier is still growing.
For many minutes, my eyes were fixed on the glacier wall, which rises up to 75 meters, then I see a large ice wall, the height of a high-rise building, break off from the glacier and plunge into Lago Argentino - I was so amazed and everything happened so fast that I couldn't capture this spectacle on camera...
With much reverence, I stood for a long time facing this huge and beautiful glacier and lost track of time .... An unforgettable experience, hardly to be put into words...!
