We have been to Sydney in 1999 and 2010, and even now this city remains my dream city: the weather, the people, the vibe, living conditions, cultural offerings, the huge parks, and the nature surrounding Sydney are simply unbeatable!
I love Sydney and the song by Icehouse about this city - Harbour Town
This time we took time for very special activities: exploring the bays of Sydney and the Parramatta River by ferry, going to the Opera House, and heading to Bondi Beach.
And we made sure that our voting ballots arrived at the General Consulate of Sydney on time so we could participate in the federal election! In total, about 150 German citizens cast their votes in Sydney. The election documents were sent back to Germany via express courier on Tuesday evening. We are very curious about the election results.
Our Recommendations for Sydney
Take the Ferry 1 to Manly and then take Bus 116 toNorth Head. This is where Sydney's first settlers arrived. A circular trail leads by the Burragula Lookout and Yinigma Lookout, ensuring wonderful views of the coastline and Sydney. Locals love to eat at the Bella Vista Restaurant at North Head, the dishes there are very unique. We had Caesar Salad, which was garnished with dried kale leaves – simply delicious.
The Ferry 9 goes from Rose Bay toWatson Bay. Right at the wharf, there is Seafood Doyles Take Away – delicious fish and chips with a sea view. For those who prefer something fancier, reserve a table at Doyles Garden or Doyles Beach Restaurant.
Admire the houses along the Parramatta River. You can’t live more beautifully – simply dreamy! This can be enjoyed with the Ferry 8.
Take the Bus No 333 to Bondi Beach, check out Bondi Icebergs, and then share a pizza at SALTY’s.
The neo-Romanesque architecture of the Queen Victoria Building from 1898 is unique. We stayed right across at George Street and every morning enjoyed the breathtaking view of this building during breakfast.
Spend an evening at the Sydney Opera House. We listened to 'The Great Opera Hits.' The program and acoustic were excellent. Afterward, just sit on the steps in front of the opera and enjoy the atmosphere of Sydney.
With the Tap on - Tap off payment system for credit cards, trams, buses, ferries, and subways can be used 'ticket-free,' a great idea for Germany, too!
If the time is right, travel to Sydney for Australia Day or New Year's Eve.
