South of Siem Reap, a wonderful tour takes you to the floating village of Kampong Phluk on the edge of the Tonle Sap Lake – a place built on stilts, complete with a police station, school, hospital, temple, and fishing areas – all intact. During the rainy season, only the upper floor of the 6 – 9 meter high houses is livable, with everything else submerged. We visited in November (early Dry Season), with a water level of minus 2 meters, so at least the floor below was livable and the village street was passable.
Next, we take a small boat with two people for a tour through the mangrove forests. Despite the many boats passing through, there is absolute silence. Just lying on your back in the boat and enjoying. Occasionally, a boatwoman sings Cambodian songs in a deep voice .....
