Today our journey continues over Millers Flat, Little Valley, Alexandra, Cromwell to Gibbston, where we will visit the Kawarau Gorge Bridge, heading to Queenstown.

The Kawarau Gorge Suspension Bridge spans the Kawarau River in the Otago region on the South Island of New Zealand. The bridge is primarily used by the AJ Hackett Bungy Company for bungee jumping - the world’s first commercial bungee jumping site. It also carries walkers, runners, and cyclists on the Queenstown Trail across the river.

The bridge was designed by Hary Higginson.

The bridge was completed in the late 1880s as a vital access route to the goldfields of Central Otago. Traffic was diverted in 1963 to a new highway bridge on State Highway 6.

The suspension bridge is registered by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a Category I historic place. Today, it is a tourist attraction with commercial zip lines and bungee jumping.
