In the land of the Maasai

For the last two days, I was in the land of a very traditional and rural Kenyan ethnic group, the Maasai.

Since the lands of the Maasai can often be very dry seasonally, they are hardly suitable for farming, which is why the Maasai primarily rely on livestock farming. Vegetarianism is therefore hard to find among the Maasai, as meat features at least once a day in their meals.

However, not only domesticated animals can be found in the territories inhabited by the Maasai. Livestock farming is a constant temptation for hyenas, even if they only come near human settlements at night. Other animals, including elephants, can occasionally be seen as well. In one of the photos, I compared an elephant footprint with my own foot.

Thanks also to the long connections my friend Philo has with the people from the village we visited, I was warmly received by the Maasai, and I myself was able to win the hearts of the local population.
