The first activity in the late morning is a walk through a park along the river to the Durie Hill Memorial Tower on a hill, which you can ascend via an elevator inside the hill, 'The Durie Hill Elevator', built in 1919 - the interior of the elevator looks like this.
Then back down the stairs into town, stopping here and there for coffee and carrot cake, admiring beautiful houses and just taking it easy.
Later, a visit to the Sarjeant Gallery - really amazing, the old building has been connected tastefully with the new one, and the exhibition is truly worth seeing!
At the B&B, we had an interesting conversation with a Stefanie from the Harz region, who has already hiked the Te Araroa Pathway (TA) twice; it's a 3000 km track from the South Island to the North Island that crosses many mountains and is said to be incredibly beautiful, the huts where you can sleep are small and simple, quite something!
Later we ate at the beach and tried the sundown picture a second time!
