Fagaras

Between my time in Budapest and Sibiu, I had just about a day and a half to spare and thought I would enjoy it somewhere in the middle of nowhere, where I couldn’t do much and could just take a break. 

So, after getting up in the dark and waiting an hour and a half for my connecting train in Sibiu, I found myself in Fagaras. 

The train ride there was beautiful. The entire journey was alongside the Fagaras Mountains, providing a wonderful view and sight.

When I arrived at the hotel at ten in the morning, I was lucky to be allowed into my hostel room early. A silver lining, as it gave me time to rest properly, especially since I wasn’t feeling very well that day. 

In the afternoon, I decided to explore the town and at least take a closer look at the church from the outside and visit the castle.

The church can already be seen from far away by its golden roof. It is an Orthodox Christian church. 

At the castle, there was a museum you could visit, which covered the history of the castle as well as a bit of the history of Romania. To visit the rooms, you had to wear these funny little covers for your shoes, so as not to damage the floor...

In the end, I wandered around a bit in the outer castle grounds. 

After the short but delightful excursion, I returned to the hotel for an afternoon nap, bought myself some delicious pasta in the evening, and then the next morning, feeling very refreshed, headed back to Sibiu. Even though there wasn't much going on in the small nest, I accomplished what I wanted to and had a good rest, slept a lot, and simply let my soul unwind.
