The European city of Strasbourg

From Rouen, I traveled, again via Paris, to Strasbourg. 

Here too, I was lucky to be able to stay with someone I knew. Emily, my roommate's sister, was kind enough to host me for a few days. 

On the first evening, I decided to take a little walk around the city. As always, I just went where it looked nice. 

In the evening, Emily and I went out to eat, and what can I say, I had my first interesting experience with French food. I tried to translate the menu with Google, but I thought it would turn out something completely different. Well, at least I have a funny travel story to tell now and a memory I won't forget anytime soon.

The next day, I had the chance to visit Emily at work. She works at the European Court of Justice and was able to give me a little private tour of the court and also the building of the European Council. That was super interesting, and I had the opportunity to see inside buildings that are otherwise not so easy to enter. 

Afterward, I also checked out the European Parliament myself, but there was a session that day, so I couldn’t see the chamber. 

In between, I picked up a very good too good to go bag. It was really worth it. So much good French bakery. 

In the evening, we cooked together again. I brought out the good old Flammkuchen recipe again and baked three different kinds of Flammkuchen. Delicious! And then we ended the evening with a cozy series night.

On my last full day, I started quite relaxed and only went out again in the afternoon for a little tour. But it was also cold and rainy. But I tried to make the best of it at 6° C. 

Strasbourg is also known as the city of storks. They nest everywhere, and you can also find small street art works distributed throughout the city. 

I visited the cathedral and climbed the tower, and it was really worth it. 

Then a crêpe for a snack in between, and then a walk through Petite France, a district of Strasbourg where part of the old city wall is located. 

In the evening, after dinner, Emily and I explored the city in the dark again. We discovered so many things, and I also had a little guided night tour through Strasbourg. 

And of course, like in every city, I sent a few real postcards. 

I really enjoyed my time with Emily and could feel at home with her. Now it's time for me to move on to the more unplanned part of my trip. For the next week, I have a place to sleep, the rest will work itself out.
