Namibia 2024: From the sea to the mountains

Today we will leave Swakopmund and head towards the Orongo Mountains to Spitzkoppe:

The Spitzkoppe (also Spitzkuppe, Spitzkopje or Spitskopje) is an inselberg with a height of 1728 m, 120 km east of Swakopmund in Namibia , which towers 700 meters above its surroundings. Due to its distinctive shape, it is also known as the "Matterhorn of Namibia" and is one of the most photographed mountains in the country.

But first we have a leisurely breakfast.

Afterwards we stroll a bit through Swakopmund and buy things that we were neither looking for nor even needed.

First and foremost me, who bought a leather bacon hat 🙈

It's probably just a phase, bunny 😂

Then it was time to leave, fill up the diesel and the board bar and be on the road!

It will only be about 160 kilometers today.

The route is easy to explain, first always follow the Atlantic Ocean towards the north. At the shipwreck turn right, then follow the tracks of the one-horned oryx for 90 kilometers, then turn left at the white sign, follow the tracks of the blind turtle and you'll see the Spitzkoppen Lodge 😂😂

Seriously, the route is very easy to ride and is partly asphalted and partly gravel.

However, it should be mentioned again: do not always rely on your sat nav, as it sometimes wants to take very strange routes in this country.

But our cockpit crew, Susi and Kristina, are not confused. With Susi holding the map and Kristina holding the steering wheel firmly, we reach our destination, the Spitzkoppen Lodge.

Benny greets us in a matter-of-fact rather than exuberant manner and gives us a rough description of the lodge, meal times and the activities on offer.

The lodge is divided into a main area and a tent village.

All tents are connected by walkways and paths.

But what is Benny saying??

“You have tents 14 and 15, which are about 15 minutes walk from the main area, but are therefore much quieter...”

I have to digest that first...

so walk to breakfast 15 minutes ... okay

Walk to the pool 15 minutes … okay

Forgot sunscreen. 15 minutes there and 15 minutes back.

I have doubts, what if we get thirsty unexpectedly? Will we be dehydrated before we reach the bar?😂

Jokes aside, it’s all a matter of proper organization!

The tents are fantastically placed in the wonderful, bizarre rocky landscape.

Everything is designed in such a way that it can be dismantled at any time without leaving any residue and that nature is not harmed.

We settle in and Carsten takes the first important step towards proper organization:

15 minutes to the car, shoulder the onboard bar and 15 minutes back to our tents and stock the minibar.

That feels good 👌

Now we'll chill out by the pool for a bit and then we'll move to the sofas!!!! Which have been placed above the pool for the sundowner.

A wonderful and truly unique place.

Then it was time to go back to the tent, you guessed it …15 minutes,

Wash hands, comb hair and back to dinner.

We have a nice table for four in the lounge area.

The dinner is once again mega good.

Then an Amarula and…

Good night Africa, we look forward to tomorrow!!
