Last night we found out that Jan's luggage rack on the motorcycle had broken. So first we had it welded back together and then we continued our journey north. We bought some bananas and yogurt for breakfast. We took a break at a beautiful spot with an amazing view and wanted to have breakfast. Unfortunately, we realized that we had bought plantains. These are inedible when raw. So we only ate yogurt and played around with the 12 bananas - banana throwing and banana dueling. These new sports invented by us should really be pursued. With still some hunger in our bellies, we continued to a very small ferry that took us across a river. On the other side, we found a stand that sold beautiful and edible YELLOW bananas. So we took another break and finally ate bananas with yogurt on a wall by the river. Afterwards, a relatively curvy road led us along the riverbank. Suddenly, I startled a chicken with my motorcycle, causing it to try to cross the road. Unfortunately for the suicidal chicken, a truck came on the opposite lane at that very moment. With a loud crack, it was over for this chicken. We had to pull over to the right because otherwise we would have flown off the motorcycles from laughing so hard. After a really entertaining day, we reached the city of Nghia Lo. Now we can certainly say that we have reached the mountains in northern Vietnam.
