Neuf-Brisach

We didn't want to go too far for the start of our caravan season this year. Since we had been keeping an eye on the cycling paths along the Rhine for a while, we first headed to Neuf-Brisach in Alsace.

Only a few kilometers from Colmar and the German partner town of Breisach, in the heart of the Alsatian plain, Neuf-Brisach surprises with its perfect geometry. The fortified town, built in 1699 by Marquis de Vauban (engineer of Louis XIV), is a masterpiece and a unique example of military architecture from that time. Everything here was thought out to the last detail: a star-shaped layout, monumental city walls, straight streets – a walk through Neuf-Brisach immerses you in an ideal town designed over 300 years ago.

A visit is definitely worthwhile, and the best part: we can reach the charming little town from the campsite in just a few minutes on foot!
