San Rafael is a locality (hamlet) belonging to the municipality of el Espinar, in the province of Segovia, in Castilla y León (Spain, Europe). It is part of the region of the Community of Ciudad y Tierra de Segovia and of the subregion of the Sexmo del Espinar. It belongs to the judicial district of Segovia, the judicial party No. 1 of the province of Segovia.
San Rafael is a locality that, being a mandatory stop on the national road N-VI (from Madrid to A Coruña) and being located a short distance from the border between Castilla y León and the Community of Madrid (at the well-known Alto de los Leones pass), and also because a large number of trucks and other vehicles pass through the locality every hour throughout the year, has become a genuine tourist and commercial 'stopover', housing a large number of bars, restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, hostels, pensions, apartments, and other businesses along the full stretch of the N-VI; additionally, San Rafael also has a bus station.
The population (according to 2023 INE data) is 2511 inhabitants. San Rafael is located 5 kilometers from el Espinar, the municipal capital (approximately 8 minutes).
The small but beautiful parish church of San Rafael is consecrated to Saint Raphael the Archangel; it was built in 1933 by the architect García de Pablos.
