From the Safari to the Sea
Today we continued from the Hartenbos Private Game Lodge towards the coast to Plettenberg Bay – a day that once again demonstrated how incredibly diverse the Garden Route is.
Our first stop took us to the Garden Route National Park. There we hiked to the waterfall – a total of about 9 kilometers through forest, just like in the jungle.
After that, we went on to Buffalo Beach. There was a brief swimming stop – for me the water was definitely too cold, but the beach was simply stunning. And it was deserted. I thought to myself that in any European country, this beach would be completely overcrowded.
Next, we made a stop at The Heads. These are two sandstone cliffs marking the narrow entrance to the lagoon of Knysna – a passage known as one of the most dangerous harbor entrances in the world due to strong currents, changing winds, and tricky sandbanks. However, today it showed itself in its most beautiful form: The view was truly breathtaking.
In the late afternoon, we finally reached Plettenberg Bay and checked into the Plett Quarter Hotel. A true highlight is the Skypool, which we of course visited right away, high above the town, overlooking the beach and ocean.
We ended the evening with a cozy dinner right in our hotel.
A day full of beautiful adventures experienced along the Garden Route.
