Cape Town – Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap and Green Point

At 8 AM we arrived at Table Mountain. The weather was unusually calm: no wind, but very hot at 33 °C.
We walked 6.5 kilometers across the plateau and hiked to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point of Table Mountain. The view of Cape Town, the Atlantic, and the surrounding mountains was clear and expansive. From the top, you can clearly see why the mountain has its name – Table Mountain is almost completely flat, like a large surface.
After the hike, we took the cable car back down. The ride took only about five minutes. We had breakfast at the top before heading back to the car around 2 PM.
Afterwards, we drove through Bo-Kaap, the neighborhood known for its colorful houses. The colors are truly impressive. Unfortunately, we couldn’t drive through the narrow streets where the most beautiful houses are located (second to last photo), as our car was too large and everything was parked on both sides. Nevertheless, it left a lovely impression of this unique neighborhood.
Back at the hotel - car parked - we decided to take a look inside Cape Town Stadium - as guided tours are offered - but unfortunately, it was closed today, probably due to the holiday, so we just walked around the stadium and then continued to the Green Point Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in South Africa (last photo). A peaceful spot near the sea.
We ended the evening comfortably in a Scottish pub, Mitchell’s Scottish Ale House. A relaxing dinner – just right after this hot and very impressive day.
Tomorrow we start our Garden Route journey. Our first stop is Hartenbos, where we will spend the night in a private lodge.
