We were craving the off-the-beaten-path South Korea, so we followed the recommendation of another traveler and went to Namhae Island, where there’s truly nothing going on. When we wanted to eat in the evening, everything was closed. An older couple approached us from their car, and with Google Translator, we explained that we were looking for something to eat. They then drove us to a restaurant and waited for an hour (!!!) in the car so they could take us back to the motel afterward. That was incredibly kind, but it was also a bit uncomfortable for us. We tried (with Google) to persuade them to join us, to accept an invitation for a drink, or to let us take a taxi back, but they wouldn’t hear of it. It was truly a crazy and overwhelming experience of Korean hospitality…
The next day, we visited the lovely little village of Darangi in the south of the island.
