Alcatraz – The Rock

Today we will take the second ferry to Alcatraz in the morning and explore the former high-security prison and the filming location of the gripping 90s action blockbuster “The Rock” by Michael Bay featuring the unlikely film duo Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery. If you want to avoid the crowds, it’s best to head to Alcatraz, Pier 39, or Lombard Street in the morning. San Francisco has a unique atmosphere early in the morning. The trip to Alcatraz is impressive on its own, not least because of the boat ride and the island itself. It is primarily a historical site that seems to clearly contradict the current efforts for its reactivation. Back from the exciting island, we will pack our things and drive our rental car on our first longer trip towards Yosemite National Park.

San Francisco has impressed us: the bay, the topography – it is not only a center of innovation but also a fantastic travel destination offering something for just about everyone, whether it's art, culture, history, nature, or entertainment – and to our surprise, there is a vibrant coffee scene with many coffee specialty shops and local roasteries.
