In search of affordable direct flights, we naturally booked the flight that seemed great in the excitement but was regretted later. A 6:30 AM flight with Edelweiss from Zurich.
Even while packing the night before, it was clear that this wasn't a particularly strong decision. It felt like we had just closed our eyes when the alarm rang again.
After about three to four hours of sleep, we somehow pulled ourselves together and drove towards Zurich Airport. There, after the security check, it was immediately clear that we needed some coffee. So we ended up at Starbucks, in that state where you are both awake and completely out of it.
On the plane, however, we were lucky because the seat next to us stayed empty. A little travel upgrade that you appreciate more the less sleep you had. However, it did get a bit challenging in the scent department during the flight. So here's a little live hack from my COVID time: Spray the mask with a few spritzes of perfume beforehand and wear it. It works very well.
After landing, we immediately picked up our car for the next two weeks. A small VW convertible that looked like a bathtub on wheels.
After a quick grocery shop, we took a long chill break because our energy level, like our iPhones, was roughly at three percent.
In the evening, we went to restaurant Los Gigantes Beach Club for dinner, and of course, we couldn't miss the first Aperol Spritz of the trip.
With the view from our Airbnb at Acantilados de Los Gigantes, the way too early flight suddenly felt only half as bad.
