# 01 Covering Kilometers

Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Bremen - Sunshine.

Let's go - 11 AM.

The plan is: A 7 as far as possible. We decided to head towards the Franconia region near Würzburg. The place Volkach is located right by the Main River, and there is also a motorhome parking area set up there.

The drive on the highway went smoothly except for a traffic jam near Göttingen. Bavaria was reached after about 400 km, and we left the A 7 just before Würzburg, continuing via Schweinfurt towards the Main Loop to Volkach, which we reached around 5 PM (without the traffic jam, it would have been on schedule earlier).

And there it was, the parking area directly by the river.

There were already a few motorhomes in the front row enjoying the best weather. But such a spot was still free for us. Wonderful - the feeling of freedom set in immediately.

And how does the payment work (10,- € per night)?

The parking ticket machine is still packed, and instead, there is a sign pointing to the digital parking app “Parkster”. So, download the app, get oriented quickly, and pay the parking fee by providing your license plate. That was easy.

What do you do first when you arrive at an unknown place - exploration. The town center is reachable on foot in 10 minutes, and the sun is shining in Lower Franconia too.

In the town center, the town hall and the marketplace dominate. Here, some sun rays come through, and the outdoor dining area with wine service is well-attended. A small walk through the alleys and courtyards is quickly done, then we need a drink. For that, we have chosen the very rustic wine and beer garden 'Hinterhöfle'. And the name is program.

We are right in the middle of Franconian wine country, where wine is bottled in Bocksbeutel. Silvaner is the measure of all things here. The restaurant has a very nice indoor area with a glass front to the outdoor area (that’s where we are sitting). You can see how the seats fill up inside and how the food is served. The stomach quickly makes itself known, but we have prepared for the first evening in the motorhome, so we soon head back.

By the way, there's potato salad and meatballs. 👍

One more word about the parking area by the Main:

The spaces are gravelled and level

Each spot has a power column with payment function 👍

No disposal on site, but there’s a central disposal site nearby 🤔

Free Wi-Fi throughout the area (BayernWLAN) 👍👍

Let's see how the weather develops. Maybe we will stay another day and explore the area further.
