Who let the dogs out?! The first day at the shelter
The 'Couch Potatoes' (Seniors)

Hello everyone,
after a rather turbulent journey, I have finally arrived in Crete. I almost missed my flight on time because there were technical problems at the airport. Luckily, almost everyone at the counter let me go ahead, and I just made it right on time (though running) to the boarding.
Next to me sat a young mother who traveled alone to Crete with her two daughters (2 and 1 year old) to meet her husband there. As soon as I boarded the plane, I 'helped' prepare milk bottles. I take my hat off to this woman. It must be quite a feat to undertake such a trip with two small children. She was originally from the Ruhr area and was just visiting Germany, now she lives in Denver.
When I finally landed, I had to figure out how to get to Heraklion by bus, so that I could catch the city bus to Chania. Well, what can I say? Nothing went as planned. As soon as I arrived in Heraklion, the bus left more or less right in front of me, and I had to wait an hour for the next one. The journey from Heraklion to Chania takes 3 hours, but the landscape is worth it!
Finally arrived in Chania (after what felt like an eternity and 10 sweaty breakdowns), I was welcomed by my roommate Hermine. She is 18 years old and comes from Berlin. So she is a real city kid and has been at the shelter for two weeks already.
Right now she is doing a 'gap year' and has also supported a few other organizations, such as a husky farm in Sweden or a horse farm in Spain.
The next day I had time to settle in and explore my neighborhood. It feels a bit strange to be completely alone, but I think it's time to step out of your comfort zone and prove to yourself that you can accomplish things really well on your own. Have you ever had coffee with yourself or eaten alone? It's not that easy and takes a lot of courage, but I think afterwards you can be incredibly proud of yourself. Dare to do it!!!
