Why dogs are better than humans

So today it finally happened, and I could have cried right away in the morning...

At first, everything was okay. We got up in the morning like every day, and I must say that the night with Charlie (our foster cat) was very pleasant. He was super calm and relaxed, and he was very happy when he got his food this morning. When he was still 'living' in the unfinished apartment next to us, he cried all night, and it was really loud. He was probably just lonely. Who wants to live alone on a construction site?

Then we went to the shelter as usual. Olivia asked me again today to go to the vet with her because Babuschka (one of the cats at the shelter) was supposed to have a tumor removed, and Monday had been having a rash or fungus for a few days. Of course, I was there.
I was just preparing food for the Bully babies (Rio, Nairobi, and Palermo) when Richard came into the kitchen and held up a small package in front of my face. I asked him what I was supposed to do with it, and he silently peeled the tape off the box, and what was in the box? A tiny little puppy, who is barely 4 or 5 weeks old. How can anyone do something like this to such a small, sweet, and helpless creature?! The puppy was clean and still warm, and when we arrived about 20 minutes earlier, there was no sign of this package. Even Olivia said when she came over that the package hadn't been there 30 minutes ago. The little mouse immediately pushed her small snout out of the box and whined. I picked her up and stroked her. The people who threw her over the (3-meter-high!!!) fence at the shelter must have thrown the puppy in the package right after we arrived. The package had a note attached that said: Her name is sunrise. But we all immediately knew that the little one definitely shouldn't keep the name these people gave her.

But as if that wasn't enough, these people also created a fake email address and sent an email to the shelter asking them to please take good care of her. I was just so sad, and that was really the first moment when I had to fight back tears strongly. You have to imagine that this little creature was just separated from its mother after 4 weeks. When you stuck a finger through the bars of the box where she was initially placed, she came right over, wagged her little tail, and started sucking on the fingers. She is just big enough to fit in both of my hands. We were all relieved that nothing happened to her in the 3-meter fall, and above all, that she was found immediately. In the box, she just had enough space, and the air supply was also only so-so.

Please explain to me how people can be so heartless? How can you look this little creature in the eyes, put it in a tiny box, and then throw it over a 3-meter fence?!

Unfortunately, Olivia and I had to go to the vet right away and didn't have much time for the puppy. First, we dropped off Babuschka and then went back to the shelter car to get Monday out of his box. Poor thing had completely peed himself during the ride and had also vomited on the way back to the shelter.

When we had set down the box, the veterinarian came out and just said: She escaped. We immediately knew she was talking about Babuschka and just looked at each other. The veterinarian then came back with a cage and thick gloves to catch Babuschka in the treatment room. She is a wild cat and not very used to people, but the tumor had to be removed. However, Babuschka could be caught again pretty quickly. Then it was Monday's turn, and he really did very well. There wasn't even a need for a muzzle. He is just a really great dog. I think if I could, I would adopt 4 - 5 dogs right away.

When we got back to the shelter, Olivia also said that the little puppy couldn't stay there. She's just too small. After our shift, we then made plans to meet up with Olivia in the city for the evening. We went to eat at Vegan Pulse together, and it was really amazing again. It was a really nice evening, and I think it's really great that we all get along so well. Before that, I was a bit worried about how it would be before my departure, but here it shows once again that sometimes it's not so bad to break out of your comfort zone. You're often pleasantly surprised.
