Just another manic Monday☂️

Hello again, 

today is a typical Monday, I would say. This morning, we had a hard time getting out of bed. Amelie picked us up shortly after 7 a.m. 
Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate either. While it is pleasant and sunny where you are, it has been raining all day here in Crete and a cold wind has been blowing. The sea was also quite wild today, with correspondingly high waves. 

This morning, Olivia and I drove to the vet in Chania with her foster cat Bob, who unfortunately has two hotspots, and no one can really explain where they suddenly came from. Another problem is that Bob is supposed to fly to Denmark to his new family in less than two weeks.
We also had Kanello with us. He needed to be vaccinated. Kanello is a very well-known dog here in Chania. Until three years ago, he lived on the streets of Chania and almost everyone knew him. He loves people and was always and everywhere with us, whether it was a street parade or just a walk around the city. You could clearly see Kanello in the pictures. Now he is already an old gentleman and is allowed to stay in the shelter - unless, of course, he finds a nice forever home. 

Anyway, this veterinary practice was just wild in the truest sense of the word. There are no appointments there. The mantra here is first come, first served. We stood in front of the door with Bob for quite a while. Kanello had to wait in the shelter car because we weren't sure how he would react. The size of this veterinary practice is probably about 30-40m², and you can practically look from the street onto the operating table. In the treatment room, there are a total of 4 cages with cats that seem to be currently under treatment. There is also a huge, slightly rusty oxygen tank in the room, and overall it was quite chaotic. 

The vet was not even there at the time of our 'appointment.' Olivia mentioned that he usually rides in on his motorcycle. Eventually, he showed up with an iced coffee in hand. There is no real waiting room at the vet's office, just three chairs right in front of the vet's (office?!) desk. Anyone waiting or passing by has a perfect view of the computer and the documents (so much for data protection). When Bob was finished, we brought Kanello out of the car. He needed a total of 4 vaccinations and blood drawn. Fortunately, Olivia had brought a muzzle for Kanello, which we definitely needed. Kanello is generally a pretty chill dog. We put the muzzle on before we started - just to be safe (better be safe than sorry). As soon as the clipper turned on, Kanello freaked out. We had to hold him tight together. Since the veterinary assistant was then scared to take blood, the doctor had to come. He came, first set down his iced coffee on the treatment table - by the way, gloves are also unnecessary here - and when Kanello didn't calm down, the doctor started singing in Greek. I tell you... I had to hold back a lot to not laugh out loud. Then the assistant gave the vaccinations. I wasn't aware that vaccinations could be mixed together to make two into one, but oh well... Greece is just different :D 

When we finally returned to the shelter, we were a bit pressed for time because the kennels still needed to be finished, and we had lost time during the vet visit. Often, we care for about 100 dogs with just four people, which is already quite a lot of work. But I still enjoy it very much. 

In the afternoon, there was a small scuffle between some dogs at the shelter. Dominica was allowed to go out with the group for the first time since her surgery, and for some reason, some dogs suddenly started to attack her. Caroline took care of the attacking dogs, and I picked Dominica up and wanted to quickly bring her back to her kennel, but I was being jumped on by the other dogs the whole time. Luckily, Hermine opened the gate to the kennel and Dominica was 'safe.' Overall, the mood was quite tense among the dogs today, with a bit more friction between them than usual. Well, they are allowed to have a bad day too. Let's see what tomorrow brings :)
