Mers-les-Bains, Le Tréport and Eu – the three sisters

By train and bike from Amiens to Mers-les-Bains – and then two nights right away. A good decision.

Because everything is just right here: the rocky coast, the sea, the sun, and the wind.

Mers-les-Bains, Le Tréport, and Eu are located right next to each other and are fondly referred to as the three sisters. They couldn't be closer together, and yet they are quite different.

Le Tréport is the place of work. Here, the fishing and deep-sea harbor shape the scenery, ships come and go, and the sea is not just a backdrop, but

Mers-les-Bains, on the other hand, is for living and enjoying: a seaside resort with a whole range of beautiful Belle Époque houses. Colorful facades, playful turrets, and balconies line the coast. In addition, there’s the beach, the promenade, and fun: music, pétanque…

And then there's Eu: a completely different chapter. A castle and cathedral, history, and a bit more quiet.

Three places, three faces – and yet all just a stone's throw away from each other.

The bike ride from Le Tréport to Ault offers perhaps the best view of the rocky coast. You can also sense why the place feels a bit different from Mers-les-Bains. It’s rather rugged, just concrete between the sea and the houses (who will win in the long term?)

Here, those who found Mers-les-Bains too crowded and too expensive have landed in the past.

On the way back, a quick stop at Bois-de-Cise. Down and back up the cliffs again…

Bois-de-Cise, on the other hand, is almost charming. A small, green cove, lots of nature, beautiful houses – and an atmosphere that has little to do with the bustling seaside resort of Mers-les-Bains. Here are those who found Mers-les-Bains too crowded and too cheap 😅

And then there are the little things that make this coast special: sunsets over the sea. Moules-frites. A dip in the cold English Channel. Salt on the skin and wind in the face.

This is how you can endure it.

Tomorrow will bring more. And actually, this is already the way back.
