A windy and rainy day
And yesterday, of course, I forgot something again. We turned into a side street and there was a car parked on the right side of the road, blocking my way. The car behind me honked and an older man walked to his car. He got in slowly and I sighed, 'I hope this doesn't take forever.' Gabi commented, 'Well, hopefully he doesn't start reversing.' And as soon as she said that, the reverse lights turned on. I shifted into reverse and started backing up, causing the car behind me to panic and honk, even though there was still a reasonable distance between us and my reverse warning didn't even go off.
But the car in front of me still didn't move. A man who was watching the whole maneuver went to that car and the older gentleman opened the door. They talked and gestured, and then the reverse lights turned on again. The older man got out and the stranger got in. Finally, the car moved forward a bit. And then there was another driver swap, and after a reasonable amount of time, you have to learn patience, he actually moved the car further to the side so that the impatient line of cars could finally drive down the narrow side street.
This morning we slept in late, and as I slowly woke up, I heard the wind howling and the rain hitting the window. So, off we went into the first rainy day. A cozy breakfast, then Gabi started reading while I knitted and studied the travel guide. Visiting a local museum in Oevenum seemed like a good idea. Since we needed to go shopping anyway, we first headed to Oevenum. We drove through small roads, passing many meadows with cows and sheep, until we reached our destination and realized that the museum no longer existed.
We were surprised to see roofers working on a thatched roof despite the strong wind. But then we left the town, which had many beautiful old houses, and drove around a bit. No wonder Föhr is called the green island. Spacious farms were scattered around, and otherwise, we only drove through meadows with various birds. According to my research, we saw oystercatchers and avocets. I was amazed at the seagulls' flying activities in the strong wind. After taking plenty of snapshots, we returned to Utersum, where there is actually a shop. But when we arrived, it said: Lunch break!
We made a short detour to the sea. It was cold and the wind tousled our hair. It was a wonderful feeling, but I couldn't understand the many surfers in the water. It was nice to see the waves, taste the salt on our lips, and hear the sound of the sea. Then we headed home, and it was time for storytime. Gabi served a delicious strawberry cream tea, and we nibbled on cookies. Later, we quickly finished our shopping, and Gabi cooked a very tasty Bolognese.
A rainy day, but a beautiful day. True happiness comes from within.
