Farmers market

We got up extra early today. We fell out of bed shortly after eight. Not quite so early, but a bit ungodly, especially for Gisela, who likes to listen to the mattress for a little longer. While I took the dog for a walk and got the first rolls for us, the table was set and the coffee was ready. Breakfast together was nice again, with the usual teasing, and by the time we left the house, it was already later again. I urged haste, because the farmer's market was only open from 9-12. The sky was cloudy, but the wind had died down. Then we went to Wyk.

This time there was no car in our way when we entered the small side street, and a parking space near the farmer's market was quickly found. In the meantime, the sun was shining from the sky and it stayed with us until the evening. As already known, the farmer's market was very small and manageable, but already exquisite. At one booth, we bought a small jar of rose jelly and one with dandelion flower jelly. Garlic oil and raspberry vinegar also went into the bag. Gisela treated us to a bottle of eggnog here, and at the next booth, strawberries and a head of lettuce tempted us, because with the newly purchased ingredients, it would be a delicious dressing.

We also stood in amazement in front of a cheese stand, all products from the island, and luckily the sheep's stand didn't have any wool with them, because I might have weakened there. Then we went back to the passage and it turned out that it was very difficult to get stamps. While I asked everywhere, Gabi bought a new pendant for her Pandora bracelet, and our question in shops for a shower mat for Gisela was just as unsuccessful as my search for stamps. If only I had remembered when buying the cards! A mail carrier gave me a crucial hint, and while I parked Gabi and Gisela on a fountain edge, I marched off and returned with success some time later. Now we went to the old Frisian tea house in Nieblum, but what a disappointment, we had already been there and bought the strawberry tea. Sitting there wouldn't be so nice, so we went to our standard cafe. We are already known here, no wonder, because the Crazy Ladies are not always quiet. The waitress recommended a rhubarb cream cake. It was also very delicious, but next time it would probably be the world's best cheesecake again. Since there is also a candle making workshop there, we could watch the children who had to run around the old, venerable tree with their candles before the next shift came. This time it was two little sisters, and the younger one had a radiant expression on her face, which is indescribable. It was really sweet to watch the two mice until the little one dropped her candle and there was a big scream. When paying, our waitress said that she would like to come with us. So we definitely stood out, but so what, laughter is healthy.

On the way back, I stopped again to take a picture of the sign "Eggs from flying chickens", because Gisela didn't believe this rather unusual text. At the tourist information office, we bought tickets for the 16th, because Wilhelm Wahl would be performing in Wyk and my dear friend Brigitte had given me this tip from home. (Thanks for that)

At home, we had the usual reading session. Gabi cooked later and then we went to our landlady to pay. Ten days ago, she lost her husband after 50 years of marriage, but she is coping quite bravely with the situation for now. She, like her late husband, is from the island, and one of their sons says that he would never leave here. Two other children no longer live here and only visit during the holidays.

You can see peculiar dwarfs everywhere here, and Frau Korf explained to us that they are called Oterbaankin. In the old Frisian mythology, they lived near the ancient burial mounds. In people's imagination, they were considered the cause of everything they couldn't explain. The Puken, on the other hand, were small, friendly house spirits to whom you only needed to place a bowl of oatmeal with a dollop of butter, and you would get lots of help from them. Let's see, maybe I'll bring such a specimen home. Now we wait to see what the weather will be like tomorrow.
