Beautiful beaches, Creole food, and lots of friendly people

Unfortunately, the internet went out here in the apartment yesterday, but there wasn't much to report anyway, as we had a relaxing beach day at dream beaches. We went to Miami Beach, where there is an old Mercedes tour bus serving snacks, and we enjoyed a delicious fish box with chips there. Then we lounged on the sunbeds. The Maubi syrup in the picture comes from the Maubi tree; the bark pieces are boiled together with cinnamon, sugar, and anise, making it very refreshing with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The next pictures are from today and show Crane Beach with one of the most expensive hotels in all of Barbados, situated above the bay and featuring an elevator to the beach.

For lunch in Oistin, we first had rum punch, which was very, very delicious, and then flying fish with macaroni pie (flying fish with macaroni cake). These are specialties here in Barbados, and everything was truly delicious and well-seasoned. The locals at the next table were playing dominoes and got really into it, slamming the chips on the table and discussing loudly. Not surprisingly, since the losing team always had to buy the next round of beers. I politely declined the invitation to join in. This Sunday, many families and friends gathered at the beach in Oistin, grilling and drinking beer. As always here, it was totally relaxed; everyone greeted and waved at us. Whenever we stopped somewhere in the car to orient ourselves, someone always pulled over immediately and asked if they could help. Yesterday in the supermarket, I took four small bottles of Banks beer from the shelf, and another customer said to take the six-pack down there; it’s on sale. A woman saw us at the refrigerated section and said that the fish is way too expensive here, telling us to go to Oistin's fish market – much better and cheaper. At the checkout, we chatted longer with a local. I’ve never encountered such friendly and interested people anywhere else.

To wrap up, we went to Dover Beach to watch the sunset.

Unfortunately, it's already the last day here in Barbados, an incredibly beautiful island. Tomorrow, we will continue with a propeller plane to St. Lucia, which is also an independent state with different currency (East Caribbean Dollar). We filled out another entry form and need a local driver’s license, which will be issued to us by the car rental company.
