Our arrival in Barbados was a bit bumpy. But really just because of the DB; everything else went smoothly.
You book a train connection from our place via Würzburg to Frankfurt, and then days before departure, you receive a notification from the railway that the train currently doesn’t exist, and instead, there will be a so-called 'replacement bus service'. This is an old, decommissioned city traffic articulated bus without headrests or seatbelts, and you end up wandering around for almost three hours, even on the highway. Hard to imagine. A subcontractor must be making a fortune from this. Finally on the ICE train to Frankfurt Airport, and then the train stops at Frankfurt Main Station because the tracks are not passable anymore. Well, figure out how to get to the airport. This is not how you encourage anyone to use public transport.
But from then on, everything was fine. The Staycity hotel at Frankfurt Airport is recommended, it’s an aparthotel with a small kitchenette and a shuttle to and from the airport. The flight with Condor was fine too; the upgrade to Premium Economy was worth it, with legroom, great food, and even alcoholic drinks for free. However, we had a stopover in Tobago before continuing to Barbados. There in duty-free, I immediately bought a bottle of Barbados rum. By the time we got our car, all supermarkets were closed, and we first stocked up at a gas station. Then totally exhausted into the apartment. By the way, we also drove on the left side of the road at night right away; being utterly sleep-deprived made that not so easy.
