On the first day of our safari, we traveled to Tarangire National Park (Home of the elephants). This park, roughly the size of Saarland, is especially popular for day trips.
After 2.5 hours on surprisingly good roads, we reached the park entrance. There were already countless jeeps waiting for their turn to enter.
Less than a kilometer into the park, we saw our first zebras.
During the drive, our guide 'Elli' identified our favorite animals. He took it seriously; suddenly he turned and sped past the other jeeps to take us to a spot where an elephant herd had crossed the park.
Throughout the tour, we saw many more animals than we expected.
For the most part, the jeeps maintained their minimum distance, and it appeared that the animals did not feel disturbed by the vehicles.
The giraffes particularly strutted majestically through the savannah.
On the first day, we already observed 2 of the Big Five (elephant and buffalo) and 3 of the Ugly Five (gnu, warthog, and vulture).
After an overnight stay at Fanaka Lodge with a romantic dinner under the starry sky, we continue tomorrow towards Serengeti.
