After more than 13 hours on the plane(s), we arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport in the afternoon, just in time for the rush hour. From there, we took a van to our first accommodation. After 1.5 hours of bumpy roads, or as the driver puts it: “African massage”; we arrived at the hotel.
That was okay overall, but the room was not closed properly, which meant that the noise from the nearby main road was quite audible.
After the long journey, we didn’t mind that.
The next morning, Elena was happy to find pancakes for breakfast, but otherwise, the breakfast was rather basic.
Now we had 24 hours to explore Arusha. After a short tour past the coffee plantations and a little city tour, we arrived at a local market. It’s best to check out the pictures...
Basically, along the main streets, the “nice” houses, restaurants, and stores are in the front row. We were hesitant to venture into the second row with unpaved roads.
With over 600,000 inhabitants and 2 million in the greater region, Arusha, also known as the “Safari capital” or “capital of tourism,” is one of the largest cities in Tanzania.
In the end, we are glad that our stay in Arusha is limited, and we can start the next day on safari.

I hope that the Government has taken notice of your serious concerns and hopefully appropriate action will be taken to improve the transport infrastructure in and around Arusha City for the common good of the residents and visitors alike.
Regarding hospitality industry, the Government should set minimum standards and require all hotel operators to adhere to.
