Serengeti Part 2 - The Army of Gnus Crosses the Mara River

On the third day of the safari, breakfast was already at 5:30 AM.

As we took our first steps out of the tent, we were not alone. A small group of nocturnal and shy dik-diks grazed comfortably between our tents.

Moreover, the early rising was rewarded with a beautiful sunrise.

After 3 hours of driving past small villages, various herds of animals, and a few hippopotamuses through the Serengeti, we reached the banks of the Mara River, 10 km southwest of the Kenyan border.

There, several groups of gnus were already waiting, each consisting of thousands of animals.

When the first gnu dared to jump into the water, hundreds more followed.

However, not all animals made it to the other side; some were taken by crocodiles, who were stockpiling their supply for the coming weeks and months.

Subsequently, we took another game drive in the central Serengeti. When we arrived at the camp, we were greeted by a few marabou storks. In our opinion, these birds belong as the only ones on the list of the “Ugly Five”.
