Inca Lagoon

Published: 18.03.2024

Today we continued from Los Andes to Laguna Inca in Portillo. After a great breakfast we set off from our great accommodation. After the sumptuous dinner, I “actually never wanted to eat anything again” :-). Well, things always turn out differently. There was a big goodbye for Augustine, our host :-).

The trip to Laguna Inca is legendary. It is the only road connection between Argentina and Chile here in the north. Accordingly, it is always full with trucks and buses. Shortly before the ski resort of Portillo, where Laguna Inca is also located, 29 hairpin bends have to be overcome. The journey was awesome, especially since individual road sections were repeatedly closed. Road workers gradually let drivers drive up or down. But what I have to say is that despite the waiting times, the truck drivers seemed totally relaxed. Nobody pushed or honked. Really pleasant. Since we had a very slow truck behind us, Daniela was able to jump out and take photos of the serpentines while we were driving :-)

When we arrived at the lagoon we were impressed by the crystal clear water. The sun shone from the sky and reflected the mountains onto the surface of the water. We sat on a large stone and enjoyed the view for a while.

Around midday we drove back down the serpentines. In a small village we ordered grilled chicken. Daniela got a great half of her breast and I got a shriveled wing. I was horrified by half of my chicken. Daniela saw my look and gave me half of her fluttering man. Thank you Daniela, you saved me ;-).

The journey continued towards Santiago. Here too, at the end we wanted to enjoy the landscape and the places again. That's why we didn't take the highway, but instead drove off it again. It was another great drive to Santiago. We both said it's crazy that you keep discovering something new.

We have just dropped off the rental car and are now lying at the pool at our airport hotel in Santiago.

Tomorrow we will fly from Santiago de Chile via Paris to Düsseldorf around midday. We have a longer stay in Paris. We'll definitely have a look there. :-)

I can only say one thing about Chile and Argentina. WORLD! Thank you for a wonderful holiday in both countries. Among other things, we saw the driest desert in the world, traveled to the end of the world, climbed a glacier and Daniela even petted a strange dog and cat. We are both very enthusiastic about our tour and lie on our loungers with big smiles.

Greetings again from South America,

Anke & Daniela
