Day 14 - 16: Gili Trawangan

Published: 04.04.2017

The crossing from Gili Air to Gili T. was exciting in a negative sense. As it rained and stormed all day, the crossing took a long time, was very rough and wet. So we arrived frozen and soaked in the next apartment. At least our backpacks with content stayed dry thanks to good rain protection.

Otherwise, we are very disappointed with the last 'dream island'. Everything is full of trash and dirt, even on the beach. In addition, animals roam freely (chickens, goats, horses, cows, cats). It's quite scary when a herd of goats stands in your way at night. And it smells like animal feces! But thanks to the good waste disposal (everything is burned in front of the door), our sense of smell has some variety.

Starting at 5 a.m., we are awakened by our friendly neighbor (a mosque). Several times a day, the gentleman shouts through the microphone. In conclusion, he always says 'allah-akbar', which gives us an uneasy feeling here.

As the only solution to survive the last few days here, we have discovered alcohol for ourselves. So we can enjoy drinking here! We bought a bottle of vodka, as there is a risk of adulterated alcohol in the bars. This way, fruit juices can be pimped.

We try to make the best of it here. We go out to eat and to beach parties. We have met nice UK's and met a former classmate from secondary school.

Other than that, we went for a massage, which was quite good. Tomorrow, we will go on a snorkeling trip... we are excited! And the day after tomorrow, we will go back to Bali to the airport and finally return to beautiful NT in Australia.
