Chapter 20: Helsinki

The city is lined with numerous historical buildings and extraordinary churches. Near the harbor rises the white dome of Helsinki over the large Senate Square.

At the Market Square, directly by the water, is the completely brick-built Uspenski Cathedral. It looks particularly impressive in the shimmer of the evening lights.

Abstract accents, like the Sibelius Monument, give the city a varied appearance.

The streets and alleys of the city center areas are lovingly designed and festively illuminated in many places.

The expressionist Temppeliaukio Church appears particularly unusual, a modern rock church in the Töölö district. It is carved directly into the rock of the Temple Mountain of Helsinki and is hardly recognizable as a church from the outside.
