Stopovers...

Hiya,

with a cloudy sky, we are once again heading towards Fraserburgh. There, we plan to visit the Lighthouse Museum.

On the way there, there are many small stops that we would like to include :o)

First, we drive to Pennan, of course another small, picturesque coastal village. Pennan was the 'star' of the movie 'Local Hero' in 1983, and the red telephone booth, which played a central role in the film, can still be admired today. The road to Pennan is a challenge...single track, very narrow, and very steep. After leaving Pennan, Mr. Fü wanted to use the windshield washer, but the car was tilted so far back due to the incline that it couldn't pump water onto the windshield... no joke!

Next, we head to Aberdour Beach, a truly beautiful beach that is definitely worth a visit. On one side, there are fantastic rock formations with small caves. Since we were there at low tide, we could walk all the way to the end of the rocks. After thoroughly exploring the beach, we got moving again.

At the height of Rosehearty, we passed a small, old abandoned church, the Old Pitsligo Parish Kirk... so we stopped to take a look.

The next destination is Pitsligo Castle. It is a castle ruin and originally consisted of a central living tower, a staircase tower, and a round defensive tower. It was built around 1424. Today, you can still see a few coat of arms stones. Around 1570, it was significantly expanded by the then owners. The decline of the castle began with the Jacobite uprising in 1745, as the then owner supported the uprisings. After the Jacobites' defeat, the castle was looted by government troops and partially demolished to use the material for other buildings.

In Stonehaven, we briefly stop at the old 'Meal Mill'. An inconspicuous, small building with an old wooden waterwheel, built in the early 19th century. Unfortunately, the building was locked, so we could only admire it from the outside.

Then we continued to Fraserburgh to the Lighthouse Museum. There, we took a tour of the old lighthouse... Mr. Fü... I preferred to stay down on the ground and explored the lighthouse from the outside. I'm not great with heights, and all the Indiana Jones genes I possess, I need for cliff walks, which are already a challenge for me. The museum was definitely worth seeing, and I was particularly taken with the old glass reflectors. They looked truly amazing... mega sparkly and glittery :o)))

Then we strolled around Fraserburgh for a while, a very pretty little town with noteworthy old houses. We quickly grabbed a little bite at 'Sweets & Sips' and then headed back towards our holiday home.

On the way back, we paid a visit to the viewpoint above our neighboring village Crovie, and I must say: hats off... what a view. The spot deserves the name Viewpoint. By now, the clouds have completely cleared up, and we have bright sunshine and to our astonishment... it is absolutely windstill... really... no hint of wind...nothing, nada, niente! You don't get that here often at this time of year, and the last few days have been quite windy. Anyway, we enjoyed it and strolled along the beach in Gardenstown (our current 'home') and then relaxed on our terrace with ice cream, sunshine, and the fantastic view.

That's it for today. Since we have decided to take it very easy tomorrow, I probably won't have anything to report.
