The history of the Volkswagen AG main plant began in the late 1930s. Founded by the Nazis in 1938 as the city of the KdF-Car (Strength Through Joy) or city near Fallersleben.

Adolf Hitler commissioned Ferdinand Porsche in 1933 to develop and design the Volkswagen. Due to the war, the project remained unfinished, instead, the Kübelwagen for the military was created based on the Volkswagen prototype.

At that time, Adolf Hitler set a price of 990 Reichsmarks for the KdF car (the present-day Beetle), which would amount to around

approximately 4830,-€ adjusted for inflation today.

The Germans saved up for this car, even though the plant had not yet been built.

After the end of the war in 1945, the Allies renamed the city near Fallersleben to Wolfsburg.

In August 1955, the millionth VW Beetle rolled off the assembly line, and the VW Bulli also became a bestseller.

Nostalgia is a significant factor when it comes to cars. It evokes special memories.

The ZEITHAUS narrates over 130 years of automotive history across various brands.

The exhibits range from carriages to the aerodynamic developments of the 1990s.

Visually, the vehicles are absolute highlights.

The designs reflect the prevailing zeitgeist of the respective generation.

Inspired by the ZEITHAUS automobile museum,

there is an off-road course (1 km in length) available with the Touareg for about 45 minutes.

Driving tasks include a deep water ditch,

steps,

hills with about 60% slope,

suspension bridge,

a dry riverbed,

huge ground waves,

side slopes of up to 45%,

and logs that need to be mastered.

The traction of the permanent all-wheel drive is utilized here. Off-road reduction ratios as well as differential locks in the rear and front axle areas, and 4-wheel EDS are just some of the technical means to cope with the extreme driving situations.

My conclusion: Wolfsburg is a very young city, aside from the Wolfsburg Castle, of course, has a very nice, uncomplicated mix of people still influenced by Italian guest workers, and offers much for both young and old, see PHAENO or VfL Wolfsburg, the German Football World Champion in 2009. I really enjoyed the extended weekend and can only recommend it.
