Extremely high and incredibly lively, NEW YORK

New York is the city that never sleeps and is known for its iconic landmarks.

To visit, one needs an ESTA visa and a valid passport.

The Empire State Building is located very centrally in Manhattan, standing out with its height of 443m and its distinctive lighting in various colors after nightfall. It was constructed in just one year, 1931.

The One World Trade Center is the tallest building in New York at 541m and is situated at Ground Zero. The topping-out ceremony took place in 2013, 12 years after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.

At the Rockefeller Center, the Top of the Rock offers a 360° panoramic view of New York City. On the 70th floor, there is an observation deck that provides views of Central Park and the Empire State Building.

St. Patrick's Cathedral is located on Fifth Avenue directly across from the Rockefeller Center. It was rebuilt in 1886 and is thus the oldest Catholic church in New York.

The Flatiron Building from 1902 is a city landmark due to its distinctive triangular shape.

The Vessel in the Hudson Yards district is a 46-foot-high art installation and visitor attraction with 16 floors. Completed in 2016, it was still relatively new during our visit in 2018. The elements are clad in copper from Italy. In the meantime, the building was closed due to several suicides.

The Sea Air Space Museum represents military and maritime history. It is located at Pier 86. Here, one can admire an aircraft carrier from World War II, a submarine with cruise missiles, a Concorde, and a special pavilion for the Space Shuttle Enterprise. The exhibition halls, flight simulators, and planes make it all very exciting.

The Times Square forms the center of Broadway in Manhattan. Here you will find multiplex cinemas, MTV studios, Sony, and Vogue. The neon billboards, such as the Camelman, the Pepsi waterfall, and much more decorate the entire ambiance.

The Manhattan Bridge is a suspension bridge in New York that connects Manhattan with Downtown Brooklyn. It has a walkway and bike path, traffic lanes, and subway tracks. It was opened to pedestrians in 1910 and just 4 years later for vehicles.

The Statue of Liberty stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. It was inaugurated in 1886 and is a gift from France to the United States. The statue has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. The pedestal is made of copper, and at its feet lies a broken chain.

With a total height of nearly 93m, it ranks among the tallest statues in the world. Additionally, the Immigration Museum is located on Ellis Island.

The Spanish/Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava was commissioned in 2006 to design a light-filled train station named “Oculus.” The construction costs ultimately amounted to 4 billion US dollars, making “Oculus” the most expensive train station in the world. It has a large, airy white hall, with an open ceiling featuring glass inserts. The metro station is meant to resemble a white dove of peace, inspired by the attacks of September 11, 2001.
