Off the coast of Muscat, the capital of Oman, lies the royal troop transport vessel which was built in 1987 at the Bremer Vulkan shipyard. It now serves as an escort ship for the royal yachts.

At the Nizwa Souk, you can find virtually clinically clean vegetables and fruits. The fish is caught fresh from the coast; no Omani would buy frozen fish. Women are hardly present for negotiations in Oman, but they direct the market activities from the sidelines with their mobile phones.

The livestock market in Nizwa begins in the early morning hours; everything that has four legs is sold and auctioned. The animals are presented, allowing for a closer inspection.

El Hamra, an oasis town, is known for its traditional mud architecture and is located at the foot of Jebel Shams, the highest mountain in Oman (3028m).

The Wahiba Sands desert, in the east of Oman, is known for its high yellow-red sand dunes. Here, you have the opportunity for a desert safari on a camel or in a Land Rover, and of course, there's the Arabic Khawa with a hint of cardamom, clove, a bit of cinnamon, and dates.

The Arabian Peninsula can hardly boast lakes or rivers; most areas are only visited by ephemeral watercourses, the wadis. They suddenly appear during the rainy season and can form wide streams, which can put human lives at risk.
