'I'm packing my suitcase..'
Only two suitcases of 23kg for five people? Reactions like 'What, that's impossible!' to 'I could never manage that!' were not uncommon 😉 But: these people don't know my past....

So, in the meantime we have somewhat settled in - still not completely 'digested' the jetlag, but we had expected it to be worse 😉
The journey went - apart from a 4-hour delay (thankfully we weren't at the airport yet!) - wonderfully. Finn managed to pull through and basically had a free night by watching all the in-flight entertainment 😂 We also didn't have to wait longer than 15 minutes at immigration (but then had to wait at the car rental.. 🙈)
In the first two days, we have already done quite a bit: we went to the Aquarium of the Pacific (they actually have axolotls 😍 and you can pet baby sharks & rays), the Natural History Museum, the California Science Center (unfortunately under renovation so the Space Shuttle Endeavour isn't there), the Petersen Automotive Museum (never seen so many amazing cars in one place 🤩), at the Walk of Fame (can you actually buy a star there? We found that almost everyone is immortalized there.. 😆) and at the Griffith Observatory (what a view 😎). Conclusion: There is so much to see and do!
The next two days we will devote to Venice Beach, Santa Monica & co before we continue to San Diego.
So far the most sobering (though not surprising): The food or rather the prices for it. Good food here is (if at all) only unbelievably expensive. If you want to buy something without 'added sugar' (at the supermarket), you really have to search long. No wonder Americans eat so poorly, most probably have no other choice because they simply lack the money. A ready meal is, for example, incredibly much cheaper than cooking fresh yourself. Cookies/chips cost a fraction of vegetables/fruits. Worrying. (And the lowlight of today was the urgently desired McDonalds visit by Robin. I have never had such a disgusting hamburger in my life - that's it (at least for me) with Mc for this holiday 😉)
