Memorial Day Weekend in Ventura (Part 1)
We actually planned about 90% of our trip (obligatorily) in advance - only the last week was left open because we simply didn’t know where exactly we would be or where we wanted...

Memorial Day is actually a 'serious' matter. It honors all fallen US soldiers who have died in battle for their country. However, Memorial Day Weekend is primarily one thing for Americans: party, barbecue, and shopping 🙈 Everywhere, there’s drinking, eating, and endless shopping - everywhere you can find 'Memorial Day Sale'. And we’re right in the middle of it all 😉
On Saturday, we take a trip with Amtrak to Santa Barbara. There we meet Dinah, a colleague of Reto’s, whom he met 15 years ago on a trip in Uganda. About 10 years ago, she spontaneously hosted us for a night in New York (where she lived at the time) when we missed our connecting flight to Miami due to a delay. At 1 AM we went to the Empire State Building - unforgettable 😉 We spend a wonderful day with her and her daughter (and their babysitter 😉) in Santa Barbara, a very charming coastal town. Unfortunately, we have to take a Lyft back to Ventura, because Amtrak only runs 3 times a day - well, public transport in the USA.. 🙈
On Sunday, after visiting the beach, we also dove into the 'Memorial Day Sale' in Ventura (mainly me 😂). A really good shopping mall, even with a bus right to the door 😉 In the evening, 'Pizza Man Dan' brought us our dinner. On the order form on the website, you could even enter the campsite number, and the incredibly tasty pizza was actually delivered directly to our RV - what a show 😂👍
And then, unfortunately, it’s already here, the 'grand finale'.. on Memorial Day itself (May 26) we will head to Malibu, the very last stop and night ☹️
...To conclude this blog, there will be a 'Highlight' list from all participants 😎 Thanks here already to the diligent commentators, we have always appreciated it 😊👏
