Morro Bay - back at the sea 🌊

Even from a distance, one can see the impressive 'Morro Rock' - the landmark of Morro Bay. The long-extinct volcano shapes the landscape of the beautiful bay. Next to it (unfortunately) also stands an old, very ugly power plant with three huge smokestacks, which has been out of operation since 2014 - but no one wants to pay for its demolition, so it still stands there, rotting away... 😉

All of this and much more we learn from our captain during our second whale watching tour. The sea is really giving it its all this time (unlike in San Diego); the waves are towering and we praise the Dramamine we took earlier, otherwise we'd probably be hanging over the railing just like three others in the group… 🙈 Meanwhile, our boys sit at the table munching on chips; the unbelievable rocking doesn't bother them at all 😂 And indeed, we are lucky this time: We see humpback whales up close (and even smell them - they really stink 🤢). The captain's comment: this is now the famous 'Eau de whale' - haha 😉 Robin is - like us - excited about the whales, while the other two are more into the snacks they brought along, well... 😅

Our campsite, the 'Morro Dunes RV Park', is finally really right on the beach; we can even hear the waves and seals in the camper 😍 I am truly a bit in love with this cute little coastal town that I had already discovered back home. I still owe you an explanation from my last post... 😉 So, it went like this: On a rainy day, I was on the treadmill at Chili Fitness. There, you can choose landscape videos that you run through virtually. I simply selected 'California's West Coast' and suddenly - bam - I was at this beach and found this scenery incredibly beautiful. I had to look up exactly where that is. To my delight, it was right on our approximate route - and was immediately included in the plan 😉 I could already see myself jogging along this beach in my thoughts weeks before departure. And that's exactly what I did. Let me tell you: it was 'live', so much more beautiful than in the video 😍

...and I won't even start on the sunsets, pictures say more than a thousand words 🤩 Conclusion: You must definitely go to Morro Bay. I was actually a bit nostalgic when we had to move on... 😅
