Hello everyone,

Since yesterday, my visitor from Germany has arrived – and let me tell you: We are thoroughly enjoying London! The city is once again showing its best side, and I love showing my favorite spots while discovering new places myself.

It was fairly quiet in the lab this week, as my lab partner left for Sweden on Wednesday afternoon to spend the Easter holidays there. In the meantime, I took care of determining the protein concentration in my cell samples – using the good old BSA assay kit. And yes, what can I say? That beautiful gradient during the assay reminded me once again of how aesthetic the natural sciences can sometimes be. Who says research can't also be beautiful? 😄

From Chinatown to Bar Adventure

On Saturday, I picked up my guest directly from the airport. We didn’t waste any time and headed straight to Chinatown – where we enjoyed a delicious meal first. Afterwards, we strolled through a small park filled with really cool metal figures: Wonder Woman, Batman, Bugs Bunny, and even Mary Poppins were represented. A real eye-catcher!

After that, we wanted to wind down the evening comfortably – so we continued to a typical English pub. There, we stylishly tried a classic ale. Honestly: it's a must if you're in London! The atmosphere was relaxed, rustic, and very British – exactly what you hope for.

But we weren’t quite done with the evening yet. Spontaneously, we decided to move on to a second bar – and that was truly an experience in itself! Here, the drinks were not just served; they were presented in small shows. My drink had a really beautiful gradient – just like my BSA assay. Almost too nice to drink! One could say science meets mixology. Definitely one of the highlights of the weekend.

Insider Tip with View & an Impressive Museum

Today, we had a little insider tip on the agenda: a viewpoint from which you can see the Tower Bridge from a very special angle. Not overcrowded, simply beautiful – and the perfect spot for some great photos!

After that, we continued to the Natural History Museum – and I was really impressed. Just the building from the outside is an architectural masterpiece, but inside it's at least as spectacular. A really great mix of history, science, and wonder.

What’s Coming Next…

Next week, we’re going on a little road trip – the car is already rented, the route roughly planned, and the excitement is huge. If you want to know where we're heading, stay tuned! It will definitely be exciting and – I'm sure of that – quite adventurous.

See you soon,
Steffi
