Between pipettes, coastal roads, and cheddar cheese: My life in England
Hello everyone Wow — has it really been two weeks already? I'm so sorry that it's been so quiet here lately. But don't worry: I was

Hello everyone,
It's hard to believe, but another week has already passed – and I seriously wonder where the time has gone! London is alive, pulsating, demanding, and I'm right in the middle. Here’s a little insight into my past week between the lab, art, and culinary discoveries.
A lot was happening in the lab: As you might remember, I had the opportunity to give a two-day training for two new students this week. I taught them a method to analyze which proteins are present in cells and which are not. Not only was it exciting to teach, but it was also really fun. Both were motivated, thought well, and I believe they really took something away.
After the training, I continued right away with my lab partner: We conducted several experiments and actually made a small breakthrough! Finally, it seems that a hypothesis is being confirmed, and that feels incredibly motivating. In the upcoming week, we will dive deeper into the experiments to secure the results and document them.
My own project is also progressing: Time and again, between the other tasks, I managed to gain new insights. I'm even surprised by the direction that's opening up. Now it's time to back up the theory, plan new experiments, and hope that my suspicion is confirmed.
On Monday evening, I went out to eat with a friend at Blacklock in Soho, and what can I say: It was a feast! The steak was grilled to perfection, the sides were delicious, and as if that wasn't enough, there was also a 30% discount on Monday. Tip for all London visitors: It's definitely worth going on a Monday!
And please, order the cheesecake. I know everyone says that all the time, but this cheesecake… was simply heavenly.
On Saturday, I dove into the shopping frenzy, more precisely in the mall in White City. A friend has a birthday coming up, so gift shopping was on the agenda. The mall was mercilessly crowded, but after some searching, I found what I was looking for. After that, I let myself be carried away, admired a few shop windows, and soaked in the hustle and bustle, typical London.
Sunday became cultural: After many recommendations, I finally visited Tate Britain. I had already been to Tate Modern, but Tate Britain is a whole different experience. The building itself, majestic, historical, almost awe-inspiring, captivated me immediately. The exhibition was impressive, and I could wander through the galleries for hours. I feel like every artwork tells its own, silent story and it’s worth taking a closer look.
Next week will be exciting again. More experiments are on the agenda in the lab; we want to make progress with our results and maybe come up with a few new hypotheses. And a little day trip is planned for the weekend; I'll tell you where we're going next week.
Until then,
Yours, Steffi
