Hello everyone,
This time my update comes a bit late – I had actually planned to check in every Sunday, but the last few days have been quite packed. So here’s a little sign of life on Tuesday – with even more experiences!
Lab life & learning curveA lot has happened in the lab in the past days. I not only saw and learned an incredible amount but also had a lot of fun doing it. My internship partner takes ample time to explain everything to me – which I really appreciate. Thanks to his support, I've even started working independently on my own cell cultures. A big step!
Particularly exciting was a new method I learned about: It is used to identify specific proteins in complex protein mixtures – a rather elaborate process where you can make many mistakes. Nevertheless, my experiment today went surprisingly well, and I am more than satisfied with the result. Now, I’m curious about what the next attempts will bring.
Cookie tasting – the ranking continues 🍪Of course, the culinary part of my stay cannot be missed – I know many of you are waiting for the big cookie ranking ;)
This time, I tried cookies from Crumbs & Doilies – and they are really very delicious. Taste-wise, they are on par with the cookies from Créme, and both could easily outshine Ben’s Cookies... if it weren't for the price. Both Crumbs & Doilies and Créme retail for a hefty £5 per piece – compared to the £2.50 at Ben’s Cookies, this is a real luxury snack.
Therefore, Ben’s Cookies remains my number one – top in taste and unbeatable in price. However: If you want to treat yourselves, the other two are definitely worth a bite. :)
Cultural program: Tate Modern & Musical nightThere was also a lot happening outside of the lab. Over the weekend, I visited the Tate Modern – an impressive museum of modern art. I was particularly thrilled to see works by one of my favorite artists: Andy Warhol, including his iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
Last night, I went to the musical: Mrs. Doubtfire was on the program – and I can only say: It was probably one of the funniest musicals I have ever seen. A perfect mix of humor, charm, and great performance. Absolutely recommended!
TBC...I myself am curious about what the next weeks will hold – and I’ll definitely keep you updated!
Until then,
Your Steffi
