Day 15 - FunFacts Hanoi and drive to Tam Coc

Published: 15.02.2024

Here's an addendum to the days in Hanoi, the holiday season really doesn't show the real Hanoi. Last night it was just great... we went to the Water Puppet Theater and looked at the French Quater. Finally there was also delicious street food and good cocktails. A few fun facts about Hanoi: there is almost no public transport, just a few buses. Hanoi and the surrounding area have around 8 million inhabitants and 5 million scooters. Children first learn to stand on a scooter, then walk. Everything is transported on scooters. Suitcases, gas bottles, dogs. There are no sidewalks, these are parking spaces for the scooters. You walk on the street. Hanoi has around 100,000 cafes. People don't meet for a beer but also for a café or tea in the evening. There are still streets where only one type of goods are traded - books, toys, pictures, tools, bamboo etc. and Hanoi is incredibly young, average age 32 years. The young people always look super chic and everything is constantly photographed with appropriate poses.

So… that was Hanoi. We spend the next few days in Tam Coc, Da Nang and Hoi An in the middle of Vietnam.
