Fort Canning Park - Singapore

Friends of the sun,

it's time, I am in Singapore! A city-state that is particularly known for its green side. I flew out of Sydney very early, and after a short nap in the hostel, I had the time to explore one of these parks. The nap was really necessary because I had actually thought I could sleep a little at the airport in Sydney after Hero dropped me off there, but the airport in Sydney closes from 11 PM to 3 AM. Yes, you heard that right: One of the metropolitan airports in Australia simply shuts down overnight, and the airport staff clears all passengers out of the airport at night. Very much to the displeasure of everyone involved, as the guests are annoyed and horrified that they are set out in all weather conditions, and the staff is bothered because they have to explain it to new people every night.

So no sleep for Britta, just a little dozing off while sitting. However, the nap did me good, and so that I wouldn’t just sit or lie down all day, I took a trip to Fort Canning Park.

Everywhere there are nicely placed benches in the shade, and I also paused for a moment to let the greenery and the birds soak in. Perhaps I also read a bit from my current book.

Everywhere it is green, Monsteras grow here as if they were weeds. Unbelievable how beautifully they thrive in this climate without anyone having to sacrifice half their life or sell their unborn child to the god of houseplants to make them grow well and beautiful in a room.

I really enjoyed the peace - especially since my hostel is located in Little India, which is bustling with activity. So many people, impressions, smells, and sounds. I was a bit overwhelmed at first.

Then I followed my nose and ordered Thosai at an Indian restaurant. A kind of savory pancake that is also filled with vegetables. The prices for food in Singapore are on a whole different level compared to Sydney, and since the food was so cheap, I ordered two of them right away. Well, it turns out that one Thosai is enough to fill one person, and I ended up with two half-eaten portions that were kindly packed up for me. Oh dear - I was really very full.

A colleague from Hobbiton comes from Singapore and provided me with a very detailed list of which neighborhoods I should check out, which restaurants I must try, and which dishes are particularly delicious, as well as trendy cafés. I can already tell you that every single day I just walked from one recommendation to another and explored this wonderful city.
