Australia Day in Sydney is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Sydney is particularly well known for its incredibly large and spectacular fireworks on New Year's Eve. But not only on New Year's Eve, also on the so-called Australia Day or Invader Day, a big celebration with fireworks, fair races, and other attractions takes place. Australia Day is on January 26, and by coincidence, my plans fell exactly on this day, so I arranged my schedule to be in the city that day. My Australia Day began with a cultural performance or a ceremony of the Aborigines, which also included dance performances and the Governor of New South Wales being present. However, this started at 7:00 AM, which meant I had a very early start to the day.

After the ceremony, I walked to the Harbour Bridge because I thought I would have the best view of the harbor and the various attractions in the next hours from there. This included, among other things, a flying squadron, a ferry race, and a helicopter with a huge Australian flag.

It was quite exciting, and I had a truly fantastic view of the whole spectacle. And since spectacles make you hungry, I headed for my staple food: Messina's ice cream!

After the ice cream, I went back to the hostel to shower and prepare for my evening boat tour. Since I realized that I would be in Sydney for Australia Day, I got a ticket for a night boat tour to see the fireworks over the opera.

And in the harbor, there were sooooooo many boats and people, and the view was simply breathtaking as so many lights and lamps were glowing in various colors. Then, I had the chance to see fireworks over the opera. WOW!

I am so grateful to have experienced this day here and am simply thankful that all my plans worked out so wonderfully.

Sending you lots of hugs, and in the next post, you will see a little more of the beach in Sydney.
