DAY 1: Frankfurt —> Shanghai
I flew to China with a young travel group (aged between 16 and 26 years).
Our journey started at Frankfurt airport, from where we flew to Shanghai. 11 hours of flight were a bit exhausting. But since I didn't know anyone from my travel group before, I had enough time to get to know everyone a bit.
After arriving at Shanghai airport, we had to take a tour bus to the city center. Before we could go to the hotel, we visited the Shanghai port and then went to the downtown area of Shanghai. In the downtown area, I could see for myself how many people live in this city. There were crowds of people everywhere. Along with the humid climate, it was sometimes not so pleasant to deal with so many people.
In the evening, we had our first Chinese meal in China. It was both traditional (e.g., rice, lots of vegetables) and a bit touristy (e.g., French fries), and it tasted really good.
After dinner, our tour guides took us on a "Shanghai by Night" tour with our tour buses. It was truly beautiful to see this city at night, especially the skyline. In that view of the skyline, you briefly forget about the smog hanging over the city. But I must admit that the smog didn't necessarily make it harder to breathe.
Overall, Shanghai is a beautiful city that you definitely shouldn't miss.
