This weekend we will spend time together with Latvian, Lithuanian, and Estonian families and couples at their beach in beautiful weather.
We can only distinguish them by the license plates of their cars, as all the languages are foreign to us. When listening, we sometimes believe we can differentiate between various language rhythms.
We must confess that before our trip, we knew almost nothing about the three Baltic states. Yes, a bit of history, but otherwise?
No Baltic personalities come to mind for us, except for the Estonian politician Kaja Kallas, because she appears in our news broadcasts warning about Putin, and the Latvian striker from Arminia, who mostly sits on the bench. Even with street names or monuments, we haven’t yet had a moment where we say 'oh yes, that one.'
So, in terms of education, quite a disaster! How can that be?
