Enchanted Paths and Stories: Idyl in the Valley of the Gschwender Rot

Actually, a completely different contribution was planned for today at this point. When we went for a walk yesterday, we found ourselves completely enchanted at the car two hours later and immediately thought: we'll bring this tomorrow! In the midst of the picturesque landscape of the Upper Leintal, at the impressive confluence of the Rot into the Lein, lies Täferrot. Nestled between the Welzheimer Forest and Frickenhofer Höhe, about 7 kilometers northeast of Schwäbisch Gmünd, this idyllic place reveals a rich historical past. Täferrot owes its name to the patron saint St. Afra. Over the centuries, the town's name has evolved from Afrenrot to Dafrenrot and Tefferrot (1525) to Täferrot. The origins of the place date back to the Staufer period when it emerged on cleared land. First mentioned in 1293 as Roth, from 1298 the place was known as Afrenrot. At that time, Täferrot belonged to the Lords of Weinsberg and later to the Lords of Rechberg. In 1357, the Lords of Rechberg sold the patronage rights and parsonage properties to the Lorch Monastery. The history of Täferrot is closely linked to these historical developments.A magical New Year's walk led us into the enchanting valley of the Gschwender Rot between Täferrot and the Rehnenmühle. Here, in the area of the Kocher-Lein Water Association, where nature itself shows its dreamy side even in this bare winter, the entire valley is covered with lush green moss that dazzles the landscape like thick cushions and absorbs all sounds (even sporadic fireworks). A fairy tale forest spreads out before our feet and the fresh, juicy green glows between the trees, completely forgetting the gray of past days. Humans simply need color, even in winter... The starting point for this natural spectacle is the Werner-Bruckmeier Hall, where the car can be conveniently parked. A short descent along Lindacher Straße, about 200 meters, leads to the bridge over the Gschwender Rot. Crossing it, we dive into the valley that spreads out before us. The path leads us further into this green, enchanted world. One expects fairies and trolls around every corner... Eventually, we finally reach the charming Rehnenmühle. Here, where time seems to have stood still, we can pause for a moment and enjoy the atmosphere before the path leads us further. Past the Rehnenmühle, the trail continues to the sparkling reservoir, which even offers a refreshing bathing opportunity in summer — but always at your own risk. The return route takes us again past the Rehnenmühle, and on the other side of the Rot, we continue on our way. A special highlight of this excursion must be mentioned: the accessibility of the path, which is thus suitable for both strollers and wheelchairs. In the clear waters of the Gschwender Rot, one can observe river mussels, and hawks and kites screeching in the sky circle above, giving the valley a special magic. This dreamy circular hike, including the lake circuit of about 6 kilometers or the shorter variant of 4 kilometers, promises an unforgettable nature experience for all senses.
