Monday, September 15. 2025 – Day 7
Getting up late, only after 9. Sleepy stumbling towards breakfast. Cheerful stumbling then to the pool in the shade and at 1 towards San Gimignano.
There P2 is already full, so we go to P3 and that’s just as well, because this way we are on the quieter side and not caught up with the hordes of people on the main street. It's really beautiful here! Up to the Torre Grossa and just marveling at the line of people stretching across the entire square to Gelati Dondoli. Yes, he is the ice cream world champion, but is it really worth waiting an hour for an ice cream cone?
Buying a few things for those who stayed home, having a small drink and snack, enjoying the slowly calming town, and taking a roundabout way to P3. If you block out the mass tourists and don’t let it stress you, then it’s really nice here in San Gimignano.
In one of the two twin towers Torri dei Salvucci, you could even rent an exquisite holiday apartment. But of course, there’s no elevator, so it’s 11 floors to climb and don’t forget anything while shopping 😊
On the way home, we make a stop at Monteriggione, enter the free parking, and climb up to the fortress, which was built between 1213 and 1219 as a defensive outpost. Nowadays, there’s a pleasant atmosphere, time for coffee and ice cream and a little stroll. You’re through quickly, even if you take 2 extra rounds, thus heading home over the fast and dusty road and swimming lengths in the pool at sunset. Writing postcards and going to bed at 10:30 PM.
